probably illegal......better check it out before you get any
This past weekend we went night-fishing and attracted thousands of shad with a light. While fishing for crappie I noticed that when dropping my line in the water the shad would strike the line; not the bait or hook, but the line which passed through their path. I mean they would gang up and attack it! This reminded me of fishing off of a pier at the beach, we used a red ribbon with a little bit of netting on it and the fish would dart into it and get hung up. This is how we caught our bait.
Just as an example, this is kind of what this red fish trap/snare looks like.
Basically, the fish dart at the ribbon and get caught in the netting (black lines in the image).
Can anyone tell me what this is called and where they can be purchased?
Thanks a lot for your help.

I'm told that they are legal in Alabama and that they are sold at fishing piers on the gulf coast. I'm up in Birmingham, though, so I'd like to find them online. No luck, as of yet, though.
