Default Tackle Question- Using knotted monofilament scraps to stop slip-bobbers?

I've had people say that knotting mono scraps on your line is a great substitute for a bobber-stopper if you're out of store-bought-- and even one who said he never used anything else. I've had other folks swear that the mono-on-mono friction (as opposed to the store-bought thread versions) weakens your line. They were all so absolutely certain (the way fisher-folk are), that I finally decided to just ask y'all about it. As a "B" question, since I'm not so much cheap as broke, anybody have any other/ better emergency slip-bobber stopper ideas? Thanks.

    Coffee straws make perfect premades
I think waxed dental floss works better.
    It doesn't slip.

Cool-- nobody has ever suggested waxed floss (and I'm fairly old), but it makes perfect sense. Does it work as well or better than the commercial versions, or is it just for backup?

I have used Dental Floss over 60 years. Here is how to tie it.

Just make sure that your knot is big enough so that it does not slip thru your bead and or bobber holes.

I save all my left over spools of braid if they have 20 or 30 yards left on them .......... I also will buy a spool of heavy sewing thread and use it, all will work fine.........if you use left over mono just make sure to wet it before you adjust it on your line it will work fine

Old mono will work just fine. That all I used to use years ago.
