no matter what time of year I catch crappie some have eggs. don't know why.
ended up with 15 keeper crappie out of about 20 caught, plus 1 good size bluegill. Pretty tough with the wind to keep boat in position, although the position lock on the Terrova works pretty well in some situations. Bite pretty much shut off by 8am today, then picked up a couple more around 10:30 when it clouded up. 1/16oz was falling too fast, changed to 1/32 and immediately started catching fish. Red, white, and black heads along with "natural" colors of either Garland's, curly tails or standard tubes all worked. Caught several bass too, one of which was about a 4-lb'er that jumped, shook his head once and snapped the 4-lb line like it wasn't even there.
Surprisingly, most of the crappie were females, and most of them still had some eggs. Was not expecting that. Also found the curly tail of a lure in one of them when I cleaned it.

Good catch. Some crappie will not lay all the eggs and some will not even lay at all. They are absorbed through the body as the summer progresses.

nice catch! gotta love shooting nothing like it especially when they are stacked
Sounds like a great day out, congrats!
Unfortunately, I spent allyesterday afternoon shooting docks on Wheeler and have about 60 little dink hybrids and bluegills to show for it. Outside of Spring Creek and Elk River, I'm convinced there isn't a crappie in all of Wheeler. Back to G'ville for me.
