Yep sounds like a great day!
Went out with my neighbor and his daughter today and had a blast. Fished from 6am until 2pm. Mainly just messing around. No long lining. Shot docks and stopped to cast to structure when we came across it and threw top water bass plugs while moving from one dock to another. Not much experience shooting docks or casting to structure but we caught about thirty crappie and ten bass by the end of the day. Justin's daughter kept getting hung up and every time she would holler "I got a fish". Well eventually we ignored her until we were ready to help her and then one time we were shooting a dock and she threw out behind us and kept hollering she had a fish, well we finally turned around and she was holding on to her little crappie pole for dear life as a big spotted bass was giving all he had. It was a great moment!
Yep sounds like a great day!
You ever get good at the docks and the fish are in trouble for sure.
Well still working on it. Feeling the bite is still my issue for some reason, but getting there. We found some structure (well we didn't really find it, saw someone else fishing it last year) Sunday and now understand what people say about the fish being tight to structure. We pretty much had to be right on top of the structure and feel the jig hit the structure to get a bite.
Good job !! Nice report.
I know what you mean, feeling a bite in structure can be tough. When I'm fishing heavy structure or shooting docks I pay real close attention to my line, looking for any slight twitch or jump in my line, most of the time you will see the bite way before you feel it...
EXACTLY !! You don't want to wait to "feel" the strike ... you want to watch your line, and set the hook immediately on ANY of the following line movement scenarios :
line jumps (even slightly)
line starts moving off to one side or the other
line goes slack, & you KNOW it can't be on the bottom
Once you've shot a dock thoroughly ... try this : Crappie Pappy Article

Great report and making memories that last forever!
