    Default Caught while crappie fishing

Caught this on a brush pile on KY Lake while crappie fishing, it put up a great fight on an ultralite. Don't know if its a striper or a hybred. They call them rockfish down here.Name: 0410130704a.jpg

it's a hybred. the broken lines on the side shows that. strippers have solid lines. good eating too.

Yes those hybrids are fun on light gear! My wife and I have both caught hybrids this spring on 8' jigging poles and crappie jigs that weighed just shy of 6 pounds each.

Good fish. If you eat them make sure to remove the red meat on the outside of the fillet. They fight like crazy!!

I have always heard this and I have always done it. One time my buddy caught 3 huge saltwater stripes. I removed all the redmeat except on one small fillet chunk. I cooked it last. It turned the grease BLACK and when I busted open the fillet, it was darker than any fish meat I had ever seen.

So, yeah. Remove the red meat.
