Default salt river at louisana mo

i crappie fish the salt at louisiana mo. i dont go much over 5 miles up. a lot of deep water to 20 ft deep. more tree tops and brush piles than u can fish in a month. also some feeder ditches leading off also. have caught very few crappie both black and white. most times the water is clear for fishing. when mt is not running water there is very little currant. have u people sampled it for crappie? i would think right off the big miss. it would be loaded with crappie. hope u can help me out.

We do not routinely survey crappie in the Mississippi River or its tributaries, like the Salt River. But based on my experience over the years, I do think that the abundance of crappie in Mississippi River tributaries is much lower now than it was 20 years ago. I wouldn't classify crappie as abundant anywhere along the Mississippi. Having said that, there are certianly crappie in the Salt and not many folks fish for them there so you won't be competing with many other folks.
