Default My Pflueger, or any other underspin I have, just isn't reliable. Ugh!

I've tried a couple of enclosed underspins lately and they just seem to bind up at the wrong time.

Today just sealed the deal. I just bought a new kayak and took it out for a test ride. Using a Pflueger 4410UX Underspin Reel with 4# Crappie Maxx (great feeling line by the way), I headed out to a local lake. The reel started to bind and stick for no particular reason.

ANYWAY, I'm going to try a spinning reel. Any suggestions on a good lightweight model?

    Thanks!

You might not like this, but my two best spinning reels are Pfluegers. I have a 45 year old Berkley I really like too. I guess I'm just too budget minded.

I'm Shimano spinning reels all the way!!!!! Couple of small problems (MY FAULT), have some I'm using that I bought back in the 80's and they're still going strong!!!!!!!!!!!! I dropped one of them and broke the frame - sent it back and told them it was my fault and all they did was send me a brand new one!!!!!!! Sure can't beat that!!!

Only thing bad I can say is they no longer give you an extra spool with them!! but most times they're easy enough to pick up on ebay or reel repair shops.

Switched to Pflueger presidents from Shimano Sperixes a couple years ago. Wouldn't think of going back.

The Pflueger president 6725 is my go to reel for my style of fishing.

I have had nothing but problems with my pfluegers. One had the handle where it wouldn't tighten right and another where the reverse lock stopped working. I have since switched to shimano sahara 1000 and with less bearings they are hands down smoother and more reliable.

I've got an Okuma I bought last Dec and I luv it. Don't remember the model number, but it's the small size, came with 2 spools. Think I like it better than my 2 Pfluegers. Spooled with 6# Vicious hi-vis, i'm a happy camper.

I've got a couple of the BPS "crappie max" spinners in the small/UL and next size up, no problems in over a yr with 'em. Nice and smooth and fairly inexpensive

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
