    Default Doug Hannon Passes away.

Doug Hannon (the Bass Professor) passed away at 66, the result of complications during neck surgery. I got to know Doug over the last year and a half through several interviews I did with him about his products. I found him to be brilliant and generous. Most don't know he was the inventor of the weedless prob for electric trolling motors and the magnetic bail trip that Quantum uses in it's spinning reels. I spent several hours at his home about 30 minutes from where I live here in Florida. It was like viewing a slightly mad scientists lab. Every time I spent a couple hours with him there I left with a tired buzzing brain from our conversations. I also learned a great deal in the short time we spent together.

I saw him just a couple weeks ago at a booth at the Tampa Sportsman's Show. He was at a booth of a rod maker who used his Microwave Guide system, that I use and like a lot. He looked a little rough at the time and we talked for about 20 minutes. He told me he was having a lot of pain from his back and neck and was scheduled for surgery soon. Little did I know it would be the last time I would see him. He was a rare one, and I'll miss not learning more from him.

    RIP Doug.
Good things come to those who bait.

That's very sad to hear. I've read his articles for years. He always thought "out of the box".

When I was a kid, I use to read everything I could find that he wrote on Bass fishing. When I would hit ponds, I would pretend I was Doug fishing for big bass in South Florida. R.I.P. Doug!
