we gonna cook the spoonbills for supper?
I just wanted to invite any and all to come by and visit (or camp with us)
at Sardis, October 20-22. Plan on lots of cooking, fishing, and telling of
tall tales :D and probably a little sleeping under shade tree in lounge chair too, if like previous years. We generally camp below the dam, in the regular
hook-up sites, but might go "primitive" this year, never can tell.
I will more than likely spend most of my time Crappie fishing the upper lake,
but can't go down there without at least one "snagging" outing -
catch big paddlefish in the spillway with treble hooks, something different
if you've never done it! Bring a big (cheap is fine) surf rod or equivalent
if you're interested in trying your hand at it. I would recommend a minimum
of 30 pound line, at least for beginners (50-80 braid is better!)
Forty pounders are fairly common, and if they are flowing lots of water,
it can be quite a tussle.
I had wanted to put on a bigger, longer get-together closer to home,
but things just have not worked out this year. Maybe next year!

You know, we have been doing this for ten years or so straight, and
have cooked Crappie several times, but never had spoonbill there at
the camp - I was thinking we might just do that this year!
A word to the wary tho - if you eat spoonbill, you may have a hard time
going back to Crappie - it's that good! :D

J White, where is Sardis and how far is it approximately from the southern middle TN area. I live about 30 minutes from Fatboy if that gives you a closer reference. I have to work weekdns, so i wont be able to attend. If you choose to have a camp a little longer next time that involves a few week days, I would try to make it. I wanna see you do that trolling crankbaits thing. I think it would work where I fish, but all I know how to troll is jigs. Hope you and all that attends has a heck of a time.
I'm up in the NE corner... it is about 100 miles south and west for me.
It's pretty much on I-55, ya know, that runs south out of Memphis.
I wish I could be more specific, but somebody else can probably do better.
Wish ya could make it, but next time I'm for sure gonna try to get part
(or all :D ) of the week involved with it. Might even do it on Bay Springs,
up by me, which would be even closer to you, I think.

Jeff I may think on this trip. But will have to wait until its a little closer to make plans.
Load the old camper up and hook the boat up and head out southeast. LOL

Here's a link for a site that has some good info about Sardis including maps and directions - http://www.mvk.usace.army.mil/Lakes/...ge=mainContent
Yeah, Interstate 55 South from Memphis will take you to Sardis and follow signs.
Spoonbill dinner, hmmm ain't never eat any of that stuff. And better than crappie I think someone is telling one.

Come on down, make a "believer" out of you :D not even like fish, really.
I don't know personally, but have been told it is really similar to swordfish.
I do know that swordfish steaks I have seen in display cases at seafood
places looks just like it, grain pattern and color.
