No. Couldn't find a really good definition for panfish, but they are generally described as non-game freshwater fish in the crappie, bluegill, sunfish, perch families. I'm sure there will be much more learned answers to your question in time.
Are trout considered panfish? If not what makes a panfish a panfish?
Only 7 more days till fishing season
Edit: Sorry the title should be "are trout panfish" pardon my grammar.

Life has many choices, eternity has two...choose wisely.
Unapplied biblical truth is like unapplied paint...how many gallons do you have sittin' around? U.D.
A Bass is in the same family as a bream if I remember right though.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
Small with every little oil to fry.
Or guess if it'll fit in the pan you could call it a panfish
Panfish is not a scientific designation, so it's open to interpretation. My personal definition is a small flat fish that spans vertically almost as much as horizontally. Crappie, bluegill, and redear would count. Bass, trout, catfish do not. To me, long fish are not panfish.
Hey, Look here. If it's a fish that can be fried up in a pan, it's a panfish Jack! :D

Give a man a fish and feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish and he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day!
So generally panfish are what most "game" fishers call throw back fish? Although around here there are a lot of small native brook trout populations that never exceed 6". To some those would count and others not so much so I' not quite sure? Either way thanks for all the great info.
In the big scheme of things like a few here said if it fits in a pan and tastes good then it could vary well be a panfish. Good enough definition for me. I've always been a catch and release kinda guy so this fishing season should be a new fun and interesting experience.
Anyone have a good recipe for Pumpkinseed sunfish, Yellow Perch, Black Crappie or Chain Pickerel?
