    Default Snell knot?

I was told there is a certain hook eye that you are to use a smell knot with. But I don't know what one. You got straight eye, up turned eye and down eye hooks. And one of these is made to be used with a snell. Anyone know? The guy said it was in an in-fisherman book. I'm thinking up turned eye.

I don't think any hook is "meant" to be used with a snell (other than European spade-end hooks.) I snell hooks for carp fishing, and I use both straight and down-turned eyed hooks. That's because I want the hook to be a little offset. If I wanted the hook to be "in line" with the line, I could use up or down-turned. A straight hook might work fine, too.

Downturn eyes are designed to be tied with a snell. A snell can be tied as others said to any kind of hook. Most of the time I snell the straight hooks I use spider rigging because it helps keep line from tangling.
