Livewell cooler

I need help with something. Ive seen all the threads about these. I bought a cooler and everything else. It seems that im having trouble taking out the drain plug, what should i do.
1) take it out with tools
2) leave it in and on the other side drill another hole for the aerator so the plug can act as a drain for when im done with it.

The drain should just be pressed together, so popping it out with a screwdriver should do the trick. The key on the drain once you re-plumb it is making a fitted seal. Use spacers and/or rubber washers so it doesn't leak too much.
