Default Which knot for an anchor

    Hi,
What knot would you recommend to use when attaching a rope to an anchor?

    Thanks for the advice.

Splice a loop on the end of the rope and use a shackle to attach to the anchor. If you have to do some heavy anchoring splice a loop on the end of the rope and use a shackle to attach to a length of chain and then attach the chain to the anchor with a shackle.

If you can't splice, wrap line through the eye twice, tie a bowline knot leaving about 2 or 3 in tag end. Pull tight lay tag down side of main line then tape with electrical tape from tag end to eye pulling tape tight as you wrap. Knot will not come loose.

You need to use a hollow style rope. You can burn the end and put a piece of duck tape around it and since its hollow, you can feed it back through the main line after putting a loop in your anchor and that way you have no knots to tie or untie or even get hung up. I use hollow rope on everything for my boat. Its very neat.

Figure 8. It'll never come undone, unless you want to untie it. I'd bet my life on it. Actually I did back in my younger days when I rock climbed.

I actually tie a Palamar Knot then follow that with seven half hitch knots. That baby ain't going nowhere!
