    Default Trolling motor problem

    Hi,
I have a 2006 MinnnKota Riptide 101 hand operated saltwater trolling motor that is beginning to give me some intermittent problems. I have a floor mounted on/off switch and sometimes when I step on the switch the motor does not turn on. When that happens I can hear a slight clicking noise. Can't tell for sure if the noise is coming from the switch or the head of the trolling motor.

Do you think I have a bad switch or something more sinister?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

    Charlie

If you step on the switch and hear a click..
That means the switch IS working and it is firing the relay.

Now you must check for power out of the relay.

If you have power out of the relay to the motor and it will not go, your motor is bad.

I would bet you have a bad relay..

If it clicks.... The switch is doing its job...which is sending power to the relay "the click"
If it don't click, the switch is not.

    Imagine electricity like water...
    Follow the "Plumbing"
    Switch-
    Relay---
I'm guessing the speed controller "resistor"-
    motor

Check for power in this fashion.
