I got a HB 597ci di hd and really like it. It has color 2d sonar, down image, and gps. I got it from Hodge's Marine and HB had a $50 rebate.

    What's your budget...??

Most units (even more expensive ones) work very well in "Auto" settings....

Extra tweaks and changes are dependent on what you want your unit to show you...

I would recommed the HB 587 from Academy best price. Same as 597 except not as wide a screen (showing history only).
Like mine. Love the split screen showing DI while looking for structure with 30' (1.53 of water depth) beam in 20' foot of water, and regular sonur cone for staying on brush pile (.28 or .44 of depth water .

The HB 587 is a nice unit. A friend of mine has one on his boat. There is more to the 597 than a bigger screen. The resolution is 640vx640h and the 587 is 640vx480h.
