I use hair or feathers in cold weather when I need them to get deep fast.

For years I always started the season off with dual 1/32 oz. marabou....casting and under a bobber. Always did well. However, last season, just for the heck of it, I put out a 1/16 oz. jig with Bobby's Baby Shad on it. I killed 'em! Now I'm not so sure that marabou or feathers are really as effective. Years ago we didn't really have quality plastics like they have today. Maybe that's why.

I use hair and feathers all year round. Much more durable than plastics, and you can make your own in just about any color combination imaginable. Plus hair and feathers will eventually biodegrade if you get snagged, whereas plastics are pretty much there forever.
Don't worry, catch crappie.

Yum brand, tubes, curl-tail grubs,,... inch and half, and two inch on both tubes and grubs. (can't leave out skin and scales,,... for the live minnows! I sometimes tip a jig with them, and sometimes just use the jig with no body but with a live minner,,....Wham! The bite is ON!).
