    Default J & D Slab Madness Series 2013

    2011 - 2012 Season Results

J & D Series for 2013 started at Lake Blackshear with some great weather for February. Water temps ranged from 53-58 with the North end of the lake being mostly stained from recent heavy rains. The South end remained mostly clear but with a good color. The majority of the crappie had not moved out of the channel to the spawning creeks, but there were some larger fish on the deep flats immediately off the river channel. Nineteen teams competed with many new teams coming out for their first tournament. Always nice to see the kids out too. Quite a few teams came from a long ways from Cordele, GA.

Jamie and I want to give a big THANK YOU to Scott and Billy Williams for stepping in to help with the weigh-in. They were not able to fish in the tournament, but wanted to help with the weigh-in. They did an awesome job running the weigh-in. We appreciate their dedication to helping make Slab Masters a successful tournament trail.

First place honors went to D. Grantham and J. Sapp with a total weight of 8.92 lbs and also a Second place big fish of 2.14 lbs. They long line trolled the mid lake river channel and river flats.

Second place went to R. Bartlett and D. Mead with a total weight of 7.80 lbs.

Third place was J. Little and B. Little and L. Pittman with a total weight of 7.62 lbs and also took First place big fish with a slab weighing 2.20 lbs. Bringing a youth to fish with this team made it even better.

Fourth place was T. Fowler and S. Hart with 7.49 lbs. Fifth place was D. Sidle and J. Sidle and J. Moore with 7.27 lbs.

The average big fish weighed was 1.81 lbs. Overall, 116 crappie were weighed with an average weight of .88 lbs.

Thank you to Leroy's Bait and Tackle for being great hosts. Also a big thank you to Crappie.com, Jiffy Jigs, EZT Pole Perch, Ocmulgee Timber, Rozier's Custom Jigs, and Five Star Automotive Group.

Next stop is Lake Oconee for a J&D Slab Madness Series tournament on February 16, 2013.

We enjoyed fishing yesterday at Blackshear. Trolling motor problems cut our day short and we just couldn't get that good kicker fish to put us in the money, but 4th aint too bad considering the caliber of fishermen that was in the competition. We ended up with 32 fish and made for a great fish fry last night. Hope to make it to Oconee in May.

Danbo...it's off the water a bit. If you leave the boat ramp and go towards the Mcdonalds and Waffle House it will be on your right before you get to the red light.

Exactly. Between Lick Ck boat ramp and the red light for 44 and Old Phenoix Rd. They got bait, breakfast, gas, and a bunch of other stuff. Plenty of parking too.

    Default Feb 16 2013 Oconee

Complete Results are posted here: Slab Masters

J & D Series held the 2nd tournament of the series at Oconee. Windy, cold, and windy pretty much sums it up. Arctic blast made it a not so fun boating day, but some sure enough slabs were caught. Toughest of the toughest came out to beat Jack Frost with 13 teams entered. Water temps ranged from 49 to 55 on both arms of Oconee. Water clarity ranged from heavy stain to light stain. The spawning fish are wanting to come up, but have been forced back day after day of colder than normal water temps. Looks like the next month should be good all over GA if the current weather patterns hold.

Congrats to Ricky Willis and Troy Thiel for landing the largest 7 fish stringer at 11.40 lbs with a big fish of 1.99 lbs. Mitch Blount took 2nd place and overall Big Fish with a stringer weighing 11.09 lbs and big fish of 2.43 lbs. Third place went to Robert Huff with 10.87 lbs. 4th was Bentley / Adams with 9.79 lbs, followed by Bohannon / Mathis with 9.73 lbs for 5th.

Notice that both 2nd and 3rd fished alone. Very good job by those guys in these tough conditions getting it done solo.
Was great to see more new anglers and one very tough as nails woman angler too.

The average big fish weighed was 1.95 lbs. Overall, 54 fish were weighed with an average weight of 1.42 lbs.

Thank you to Sav-A-Lot BP for being great hosts. Also a big thank you to Jiffy Jigs, EZT Pole Perch, Ocmulgee Timber, Crappie.com and Five Star Automotive Group.
