    Default What do Crappie Eat!!!

A friend of mine was cleaning some Crappie and was looking at the stomach content and it had white grub looking things in it, about an inch long 1/4"wide. Was just wondering what this is. Is it something that grows on the trees that are in the water.or is it a grub of some kind all he checked had them?????Cub48

Sounds like they where standing on their heads rooting and sucking up dragonfly, mayfly or maybe H'!mite grubs. Then again could of be a dead animal or fish laying around which produces magi'its.

Was this just one crappie or did several have them in their stomach? Aslo what lake did they come from?
An ungrateful man is like hog under a tree eating acorns, but never looking up to see where they come from!

This time of year the crappie will feed around creeks and washes that feed into the lakes because the water will be warmer and the creeks will wash insects into the lake. Sometimes 1 or 2 degrees difference in the water temp will hold crappie in the winter.
With a heavy rain there are many different insects that may be in the water that the fish don't normally feed on so seeing something a little different in a crappie of any fish doesn't mean that the fish will feed on that insect all the time.
