Ryan,
Natural recruitment of stripers has not been documented at Wilson Reservoir. The Wilson population is sustained with regular stockings of fingerling stripers by KDWPT.
Stripers require precise conditions for successful spawning. Large stretches of flowing water must be available to keep the semi-bouyant eggs suspended in the water column until they hatch (36 to 75 hours). Too slow of flow and the eggs fall to the river bottom, become silt covered, and die. These required conditions don't normally occur above Kansas reservoirs so striper populations are maintained with regular stockings.
