Default Never heard of a winter fish kill

Low Oxygen Levels Kill an Estimated 2,000 Fish in Grand Island L - KHGI-TV/KWNB-TV/KHGI-CD-Grand Island, Kearney, Hastings

Guess the angler found a bunch of dead shad (which isn't unusual, I'm told shad can't handle our cold winters), bluegill, carp, and catfish. Sounds like they will remove the dead fish after the ice thaws, don't know how many fish survived or will survive after this, but it sounds like they will restock it next fall.

Don't know of this lake but the shallower lakes usually have a winter fish kill as was said, later in the year. On small personal ponds they recommend that you clean a spot off if the snow covers it completely. EB

We have a pond North of Lincoln that has been killed this winter. It actually killed pretty early on. With the water levels low and the weeds not around the edge to produce o2 it killed it. Probably going to be a few like this around the state this year with low water!!!
