There is already a thread going on this. Just scroll down on the Main Board to the thread titled Spider Rigging Reels, I think there is some pretty good info there.

Good morning,
I would like to know what size spinning reels y'all are using for spider rigging. Small or medium size reels?
Thanks for your thoughts.

I appreciate your reply.
I had seen the thread you spoke of and while it did address reels for spider rigging I could not get a consensus of what size reel most people preferred.
Thanks for your interest.

Small. All your doing is holding line. Not casting
Take you kids fishing today!!! They will be grown (and married and have children of their on) tomorrow. Then you can take your GRANDKIDS!

Ok, wasnt meaning to discredit your thread, I just thought it may help. I prefer a regular size baitcaster when trolling in depths shallower than the length of my rods(12-14ft). They are low profile and i just like them better for trolling or vertical jigging. I prefer small-medim sized spinning reels when fishing deeper because it is easier and faster to get the bait to the depth I wand. Just think small and ease of use when choosing a reel for spider rigging because as previously stated, it is just a line holder. You will hear lots of opinions on subjects like these because it is all trial and error, but you will develop a preference as you try different rigs and methods. Good luck.

In all of this that we do we want the line to transfer the contact to us so that we feel what is going on. I find the small. ultralite reels to create a tight coil in the line and that absorbs some of the contact we look for. I use 2000 or 2500 series reels, and while they also create a coil of memory in the line it isn't nearly as tight and I get good contact with the jig.

Smaller the better
I get these on ebay occasionally. Only $8.00
