Default Mr Crappie Slab Seeker Deluxe Reels

Just wanted to post a little info for anyone shopping for reels. I recently bought 3 of these, and before anyone else says it, yes, they're $15 reels, but aside from cost, it's still not an unreasonable expectation for things to at least work, regardless of cost.

Twice yesterday (and has happened a couple times before, matter of fact one came spooled this way), the line will get behind the spool and wrap-up in the gears. I had to take it apart (twice yesterday) to get the line out. The 2nd time the line had got caught-up in a small spring (haven't had time to see what the spring does, but it's on the bait clicker end) and stretched-out the spring, which I just ended-up pulling-out with a pair of needle-nose so I could keep fishing.

I believe I'll be replacing them with something different. Anyone else have this happen?

You don't say if they are spinning reels or BC reels? Considering they may be spinning: even though a reel has a skirted spool, line can still get under the spool and tangle in the level wind mechanism. Make sure you are using a supple, quality line and not too heavy for the reel. If they are BC reels, then I can't comment. Good Luck!

Dont fill those reels all the way full. I've had a couple reels that did like that before. Found that if i only filled them half way i didn't have that problem again. Take some line off and see if that helps. Wont be able to cast as far but it takes care of the problem.

Wasn't aware they made a spinning reel under the same name?

2 are spooled with what came on them, the 3rd I had to respool before being able to use it since they'd wrapped-up the line when they spooled it, and it was a tangled mess that was just easier to cut-off and replace. These aren't used for casting (if they were I'd not have bought them), used for spider-rigging only (which makes it even worse- that I'm not casting).

I haven't taken the time to look at them closer (but plan to today), but had intended to respool them with 10 lb test, not sure it that will help or not, they came with 6 lb.

I have had BNM reels do the same thing. Maybe make a move to spinning reels or even those real cheap $5 ones that look like fly reels

If the larger line doesn't prevent it, I'll go the other way, spend a bit more for a better bait caster

I'm slowly learning it's better to spend a little more upfront, pay once cry once. Just learned it with rain gear.

i have had this happen, i started filling the spool halfway and then when they are placed in the rod holder i make sure to put the line in the center of the spool. the regular baitcasters are better but heavier also. I like the small reels but have just learned to be careful.
