I know you said 7ft but this comes in a 10ft, and i love it for flipping a cork.

I bought a St. Croix Triumph 7ft. Medium light , fast action, paired with a pflueger reel and I am very pleased with it.
I use it for slip float and jigging.

You need to consider how far you are throwing and whether or not you need to lift a fish out of brush in a hurry. A seven footer is fine for 10-15 yards and is a good all around rod. I use a 6'6" for casting. I've used 10 footers when making longer casts and getting the slack out of the line. Both (& those in-between) have there place. I want some backbone in the middle and a fast tip so you don't rip it out of a crappie's mouth.

Try one of you buddies to get the feel of what they like and get their opinions. I told you what I like for the way I fish.

bronson, i fish mostly open water or the edge of weedlines or brush. long casts are not really that necessary. what power do you use?

7'6" Crappie wizard. Not made under that name anymore. I think B&M picked them up. Call Lou at Grizzly Jig. They sell them and they will cast just about anything you put on em' a country mile. Hands down my choice for quality and price.

For the last few years I've used an 8ft B&M float and fly rod for both float and fly fishing and slip corking. For real shallow float and jig fishing during the spawn I use a 7ft light spinning rod.
