(50-channel external GPS) This may sound like a dumb question but what does it mean by external? I would think that would mean a seperate piece of equipment from the regular unit. Is the GPS so that you can mark cover that you find or place in the lake. I really want one of these units bad, I think I might have to sweet talk my wife.

Yes the GPS receiver has to be mounted somewhere on the boat..usually close to your transducer for more accurate waypoints.

I guess what I meant to ask do you mark the waypoints on the unit itself or do you have two pieces of equipment with buttons? Do these units come with mounts or do you have to buy a mount separately?

Gps puck is a round disc that mount to the boat somewhere and has a cable that connects to the HB unit, only the HB unit has buttons and where to mark the waypoints. Its a pretty clean set up and easy to install.
