Question Whats the downfalls of having only one sd card slot ???

was thinking of running to bass pro shop and picking up the 598 hd si finder but it only has one sd slot compared to the 798 hd si. was wondering what that would limit me to do with it. i could live with out the preset buttons i think?? but if theres some big loss in map usage/ waypoint saving ability I think id try and go with the 798. but would like to save some dough.eventually i would like to get a map card, but having that in the 598 , would that limit my ability to save waypoints to sd card???? hopefully you understand what im getting at. And for me this is a major investment and want to be satisfied with the purchase.

I would think the biggest detriment of only 1 card slot would be having to remove a map card and install a blank SD card anytime you wanted to save a snapshot or make a recording on the 598ci HD SI Combo...

Snapshots and Recordings are generally performed on the water for saving interesting finds .....so if a map card was being used (and you will want a map card) ....you lose your map data (and only have the base map) in order to make a Snapshot or Recording...

Exporting waypoint data to a SD card is generally done "after" the fishing day is over... So 1 card slot for this is not a big deal...

You might want to check with BBG Marine, [email protected] a sponsor on this site. I'm sure he can beat the pants off the price I just saw for them at BassPro.

Newley according to Humminbird Greg it's same as 798 less one card slot and a couple of preset buttons.

Thanks guys. I have a 998 and thinking about putting it on the bow and getting a 598 for the rear. Spend most of my time up front with the ipilot. Seems like I will have good electronics with cheap boat if nothing else. Lol.

Another difference is that the 598ci HD Si unit cannot be linked to another unit. If you saved a bit more and instead purchased the 798ci HD Si model unit, you could also buy an adapter cable (AS-EQ-QDE) and an Ethernet Connection cable and be able to share lots of information between the units.
