I think I remember some talk about the original hot'n tot with the metal lip. On page 264 of the BPS 2006 master catalog they have metal lip lures, don't know if it is the same as before or not. They are by Storm. Also mag wart and wiggle wart.

Don't know about Crappie ... HnT may have too wide a wiggleOriginally Posted by SteveJ
But, tie a leader line of about 12-18" off the front hook eye, and put a small jig on it. I've caught some decent Crappie with that very rig ... when trolling for Hybrid Stripers & White Bass. I do know that Crappie will hit Bomber Flat A's, Rebel Wee R's, and #5 Shadraps :D ..... cp
Reaper, do you use the little ones (two inch) or big ones (three inch)

i use the small ones for walleye but have not caught any crappie on it. i troll it on leadcore in 25-30 ft of water at 2.5 to 3mph. speeds probably to fast. have caught crappie trollin rapalas but slower, 1.5 to 1.8 mph(GPS) usin the leadcore.
In the eright conditions, that bait, the tot, will out produce bandits, I use the 3/16 once size, it dives about 12 ft deep, use it in waters under 30 ft, and troll about 2 miles per hour. that wide wobble seems to draw a lot of strikes. I think the old ones made by storm, with the wire clip, work better that the newer models. The 1/4 oz tots are almost a littlwe too big for most crappie, and the 3/8 oz is a good walleye bait.
Hot and Tot trolling in the South will catch anything and everthing.. We've caught some really big crappie, and huge catfish at Santee with them.
The three inch. I rarely troll since the oil warning sound always goes off when I am at a crawl after 5 minutes on my 60hp. I trolled allot while I was in the Wichita area for Walleye. The only other bait I used for them was a 3/8 oz jig, tipped with a night crawler while still fishing deep standing timber. I have had my line broke several times this way, but, rarely lost a HnT to a fish. I have caught a Crappie on one before. One of the best color combos I use, is the blue/white, blue/silver.Originally Posted by jigsbydirk
