I just use a piece of heavy electrical wire with loops on the end between 2 exposed studs in the shed.

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

For baitcast & spincast reels ... I just use a pencil, through the center of the spool, & held between my knees.

For spinning reels ... I just lay the spool on the floor.

My late fishing buddy built a box, with dowel rod running thru the center & holes in the lid for the line to come out of ... also served as a storage container for the spools.

In ALL of the above cases .... "tension" was created by running the incoming line between finger & thumb.

    ... cp

I also use a pencil to spool all my spinning reels.

And to remove the line I use an empty tissue roll and a cordless drill. Wrap the line around the spool a few times then hit the trigger.... saw it on you tube.
