Nice catch, some good looking specks. Also nice report.
Went out Thursday on Big Cypress Bayou, launched at the Highway 43 bridge and fished toward the lake. Water temp was around 58 degrees most places, not a lot of wind, I'm guessing about 7-10 knots. It was cloudy all day long. I caught over my limit and took a limit home, pic below but they wouldn't cooperate with the photographer and a couple of them flopped in and out of the pic. 4 small ones, 9-1/2"-9-3/4", most were 11" or more, 2 were 13.5".
The bite was slow, it took all day to get the limit. I threw back 12 or more less than 9-1/2". I lost count of the bluegills I caught and tossed back, I'm guessing 15 or 20. Caught one white bass about 3#, caught 2 goo (drum to most of you), one about 3.5#, one about 2#, and the usual smallish yellow bass. Over all it was a good day, just kind of slow.
The crappie weren't really stacked up as I was hoping they'd be. I did catch 5 out of one hole near Devil's Elbow, and 3 out of another up the river from there. Other than those it was catch one from a hole and move on. All of them were caught from Devil's Elbow back up to the State Park. They took electric chicken hair jig I tied, blue thunder with chartreuse tail stinger shad by Southern Pro, and black/chartreuse(gliterry tail) solid body tube, all fished on 1/16 oz. flourescent pink heads. Most were caught about 6' down in water 10'-18' deep.
I had a good time with the God of all creation the whole day while I was there. Here's the pic:
I only fish on days of the week that end with
a "Y" ...and then, only if it's raining or not.
Nice catch, some good looking specks. Also nice report.
