Default 997 display stops / jumps

Noticed recently display scroll will stop, start & jump intermittently with navonics map & SI split screen. If I run SI full screen scroll is normal. Tried head unit on another boat, no change. Is this a memory issue? A few weeks ago I saved "a" track so I thought, but looks like it saved all the tracks on this particular Lake that were in the "cash".

I have seen instances where the "Track" info gets overloaded with data and causes wierd issues...I think there can only be a certain number of track points recorded in any given track...

Try "Clear current track"... Under the "Nav" tab in the main menu...(and delete any saved tracks you do not need)..

Note: I think the latest software upgrade allows the user to "Turn Off" track data...

All software versions before that one would not allow the track to be turned off so the track data just built up over time in the memory...

I have made a habit of clearing the track data occassionally thruout my fishing day (and at the end of my fishing day right before I shut off my unit)...

done what you said and noticed there were 30 saved tracks on same day with 21835 points each, oops...I bet that track is on sd card & every time unit is turned on it loads. Will format sd.
    thanks much for the tips.

Waypoints, routes, and tracks are "saved" into the internal memory of the unit....they will not be removed from the unit memory unless you go into the Menu system under the Nav tab and delete them manually...

It is unlikely that these tracks are residing on your SD card unless you manually exported them from the unit memory onto the SD card...

Nonetheless, it is very possible that these tracks in the unit memory is causing erratic behavior in your chart views...

Go into the unit Main Menu system....
Cursor over to the Nav tab...

Under the Nav tab ...delete all "saved" tracks you don't need and "clear" any current track (if there is a current track)...

It is a good idea to manually remove these tracks at the end of every fishing day

I did delete all unwanted tracks & I do export nav data to sd to share waypoints with my 581i. Seems that one track just kept loading every time unit was powered on with sd inserted & used up all memory.
guess there is no low memory warning?

I haven't read or heard about any low memory warning ...(maybe Greg can confirm)..

Also, I think the unit automatically saves the "current" track when the unit is shut down..(maybe Greg can confirm this too)..

Like I mentioned, I clear all my tracks at the end of every fishing day because of the wierd things it does to the chart views...

No low memory warning message that I know of.

Yes the unit will save the Current Track when the unit is powered down (depending on how old the software is in your 997c Si unit).

If you export the Nav Data (waypoints, routes and tracks) to an SD memory card, Nav Data is only copied to the memory card – it is also still on your unit. You would have to also delete the unwanted track(s) from the Nav Data on the memory card as well. You can do this using HumminbirdPC by downloading the Nav Data to HumminbirdPC, making the needed deletions, and then uploading the Nav Data back to the SD memory card but you have to select to “Replace” the Nav Data that is already on the memory card. If you don’t select to replace the data it will be merged with the Nav Data on the memory card which still has the unwanted track(s) on it.

Personally I would export all of the Nav Data from the 997c Si unit, make the needed changes using HumminbirdPC and then perform a “Delete All” (or if the unit has it use the “Format Nav Directories”) to rid the unit of all navigation data, before I reloaded the Nav Data from the SD memory card.

    Update...tic...tic...tic...

I found the following verbiage in the literature for the 6.310 software update as 1 of the update enhancements for my 1197...
(Don't know if it actually happens or not)...

Track Memory Warning - notifies the customer when they are within 10 minutes of filling up their track memory and starts overwriting data

Good find Rickie. I have never had that happen yet (I think it is just an on-screen pop up message) as I don’t usually let a track run that long. Has anyone else seen or heard it yet?

997 operates normal since I deleted those unwanted tracks. I'm gonna have to do the HummimbirdPc task that Greg mentioned as strange things happen when I share waypoints via sd card sometimes such as doubling of waypoints.
thanks again for the help guys.
