I could see that being useful when the lakes are low. You could take a snapshot of cover that would be normally under water and have a waypoint that could be transferred to your Sounder..
Panasonic has a brief description here as part of its sales pitch. You can dig out lots more details and a wide assortment of products (beginning at moderate prices and going way up.) Use "cameras with gps" as your search term.

I've seen one of these cameras used to shoot on-the-water fish pictures at super-double-extra-secret locations. When the pix were posted online, it was possible for anyone to access the lat/lon coordinates and zoom right down to a foot or two of the "secret" location! If you get one of these cameras, this feature will be the first thing you want to learn about--especially how to remove the coordinates from the image files before posting them.

I believe most of todays new cell phones have that option

A gun, like any other source of power, is a force for either good or evil, being neither in itself, but dependent upon those who possess it
From an old movie I saw

It's called "Location Sevices" on iPhone...

In IOS6 go to Settings/Privacy/Location Services...

Some applications may be desired to use "Location Services" like a local weather/news app, a map app, White Pages...etc.

You should turn off "Location Services" for any app that doesn't actually benefit your day-to-day activities by knowing where you are in the world...

Disabling most "Location Services" will also help on battery life...
