Default Choosing line for my ice jig

This will be my second year icefishing. I would like to put new line on my ice poles around 2 to 3 pounds. What line does everyone have on you're own set ups. Color, type, weight or whatevery. Any advise would be great. Thank you

I use Stren personally, however I do not ice fish. I was not blessed with a love of cold weather.

Any 2 or 3 lb test line will do as long as you have your drag set right. I have 2 lb Berkley ice on a few of my reels that i jig with and 6 lb stren on the slider setups for bobber fishing in my shanty with heat.

The lines that are made for ice fishing are more supple. Regular fishing line will be a little stiff in the cold water. If you just drop the line in under a bobber any line will work but if you jig your bait the softer line works better. I used Trilene cold weather 2 lb and Seaguar Carbon Ice which is a Flourocarbon Ice Fishing Line. EB

Thank you for the tips and help. I'm after crappie and blue gill so I think the two pound test will work best. Good luck to everyone this year.

Get yourself one of the high vis. lines ( yellow or orange mono.) in 2 lbs.. Then get a small spool of leader material, some kind of clear. Tie these two lines together with a double uni knot. You will use about 15 inches of leader line on the end of the high vis.. Don't use a braid because it wants to hold water and freezes up fast and looks like rope real fast in freezing weather. The high vis line will help you in two ways. With being able to see the bites that are on the up lift type of bites. Crappies are notorious for this. Al so you will be able to get your line down the hole a lot quicker because you can see if it is hung up on the side of the hole our tangled in the ice chips around the hole. GOOD LUCK STEVE
