Default how do you fish lilly pads

ventured to a central Ohio lake this year I had never fished, place is very shallow and full of lilly pads. we had a decent day, but, think we would have done better had i known how to fish lilly pads the right way...........I plan on going back to it a few times this year, along with a few others that are very similar. my local lakes dont really have pads, so looking for an education on how to fish lilly pads. thanks for any ideas & God bless

You can vertical jig them, dipping in and out of the openings. My favorite technique is a jig and small cork, fished just above the bottom on the outer edges of the pads, I catch tons of fish this way post spawn into summer.

Work edges with a jig tipped with a minnow. Hop it on the bottom and away from the pads. Vertical fish with lightweight chennile or feather jig. Look for small ripples coming off pads, as this is usually fish bumpin the stems. Also could dip minnows under corks in pockets.

You can get a lot of info on the Tennessee board about this as Reel Foot lake has more lilly pads than anywhere I have ever been. Locator79 is doing it like I do.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

Dipping a small casting spoon in and out of the pockets also works sometimes, need to change little treble for a #4 hook. You're gonna loose some but the flash gets em interested. Hold tight when you dip the pads, whatever you use on the end, Never know whats next.
