    When I try to reply to a PM, the message area will not let me type anything in it.

    Any suggestions?

    Try this
    At the top of the page click settings
    Then scroll down to My Account and General settings.
    Scroll down to Miscellaneous Options and make sure Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing is checked.
    Then Save Changes at the bottom.
