sometimes it helps, other times no. All depends on the color combo the painted heads will make as to whether it will work or not.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

Head color can make a difference at time and like jimp said, other times no. I have seen it many time where one color head over another when all else was the same made a big difference.

Personally, I don't think so ... seeing as how the lead jig head has a color, itself ... which is grey or silver, depending on age/exposure.

I use unpainted jig heads about 99% of the time, myself. But, I do carry an assortment of painted jig heads ... just in case. I don't use the painted ones often, as they're not weedless like the jig heads I normally use.

Nevertheless ... if you "think" you're missing out on bites, from not having a painted jig head, then I suggest you get a few for your own peace of mind. Confidence in your bait won't necessarily translate into more bites, but doubt in your bait can have a negative effect on how you present it ... and one thing I've learned about fishing, is that you can have the perfect bait & present it wrong & not get bit ... and have the ugliest, most sorry looking bait presented perfectly, and catch fish.

    ... cp

I use both whatever the fish seem to want. A painted jig head will add length to a body and will make it appear longer or shorter if you go unpainted. It depends on how agressive the fish are. EB

Crappiepappy was talking about faded jig heads. You can take minneral spritis to brighten them up again. Take one and try it and see how it turns out. Seems like it gives off more flash.

If the lure you're using has a killer action, head color doesn't make a difference any time.
