A cricket is a big meal for most sunfish as they have very small mouths.
Have you tried wax or meal worms?. And don't forget garden worms or a piece of a crawler.
I'm with IBN as far as a beetle spins for panfish. You can even buy the spinner harnesses and make your own lures. My favorite is a small tube on a 1/32 oz head.
Just remember that it all depending on the species of sunfish you are targeting. Some are strictly insects eaters and rarely hit a lure.

Road Runners will work fish slow. Rooster Tails, firetiger, black, white or brown just have to let the fish tell you. I usually cut two of the hooks off, easier to get the hook out their mouth. lol
Today is a great day
I use 1 1/2 - 2 inch grubs and tubes 1/64 - 1/8 lead heads, tipped with a crappie nibble. I have also been using same size, Wooly Beavertails this year working out real good.

My fav recently has been the little tough gitzit jig with a tiny piece of worm or shrimp or crappie nibble attached to the end.

I have found when the panfish nip off the bait too much I keep the bait slightly moving at all times. This keeps the line tight and increases the chance for a hookset.
New guy here!
I have found no better hard bait for Gills' and perch than the Rapala F3 floater.
I throw it out near cover and let it set for a few seconds. Then slowly reel it in, sometimes with a stop and go retrieve.
Best colors I have found are Perch and Hot Steel.

The most fun you'll ever have with brim is the little floating poppers. They come in many sizes and colors. They all work well. When one color stops hitting , tie on a different one.The little floating spiders are trick too. Those little gills will come right out of the water like a bass to take that floater. You can tie on a weighted bobber 3' or so up the line to allow you to cast them into the backwater as they dont weigh nothing and casting them is hard other wise , unless you use a fly rod.Wal mart carries these in many colors.
Commercial fishermen help feed the world.
1. Walk into any fly shop.
2. Check out the flies sized #6 to #16.
3. Try to find one that WON'T catch panfish!
1/64 oz tube jigs are my go-to bluegill lure.
fishing isn't a sport, it's a way of life.
