Default Super Slabfest in a Nutshell

I planned my vacation this year to include the Super Slabfest, so I arrived at Lake Talquin Lodge on Thursday, Nov. 1. The weather was very nice for this time of the year with warm but comfortable temps in the afternoons and cool nights. I started fishing on Thursday with a little luck and found some really good fish on Friday morning. This was my first "real" trip in my Project Boat so I was excited. On the way in Friday morning, I lost a power pack in the motor. Long story short, Scott from Scotts Speed Shop just down the road had me back on the water in just 1 hour!! The boat performed great the rest of the time I was there.
By the middle of the week, some CDC members had started arriving and by Friday the place was being taken over by Crappie.com. I feel like this is one of the best CDC events I have ever attended and ALL the members were absolutely the nicest people I have ever fished with. This bunch of folks are some of the best fishermen and women that the southeast has to offer and I felt honored to be a part of them.
On Thursday, Lightwirehooker had made reservations at Angels, a local seafood restaurant, for any of us that wanted to go eat supper there. We had a turnout of about 30 people and we all enjoyed some good food and fellowship.

Friday morning gave us just a little fog early in the morning, but turned out to be a beautiful day. Temps were in the upper 30's early, but warmed up quickly for some great fishing. The lake was slick with calm winds all day, the kind of day that you could stay on the lake all day even if the fish weren't biting.

Friday evening was our big fish fry..A special "THANKS" go to Lightwirehooker, Heavylead, 30 more, Intrepid, The Pool Man, and No Mercy (Forgive me if I left anyone out) for doing an outstanding job on the cooking and to all that brought desserts. The food was fantastic!!! And Thanks to Lake Talquin Lodge and some of the regulars there that helped us out and let us use their facilities for our meal. We fed about 70 people and nobody walked away hungry.

Saturday morning was also a beautiful but chilly morning. The Slabfest was ON!!! Alot of fish were caught and some bigger fish were hungry that morning. I left my camera in my camper and wasn't able to get any pictures, but I was too busy watching my rods to take any pictures anyway. I caught many smaller fish that I threw back, but I boated several nice fish in the process. Now for the weigh in and lunch!!

    Nice pics
The finest gift you can give to any fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you?"

I think they call it "Management" operations (if the secretary ain't doin it = it gets all messed up).......

Great time. A big thanks to all who worked and especially to those who attended. As to the spring, how about February? I have been told that is one of the best months.

Man, I didn't think you guys could actually pull this off. But now I see that I really missed out on some good fun.
    Some really good pics.
