I came across this wind map that visually shows the current winds in the U.S. in real time. I wouldn't depend on it for planning a day fishing, but it's pretty interesting to look at.

Believe NOAO has a similar program that also shows real time ocean current speeds and wave height info from both civilian and in peacetime military ships using satellite feed. Don`t know the exact website address. Ships use it to avoid storms and rogue wave activity
