Don't use a float. More fun to feel the thump anyway.

Jig fishing to me is a visual style of fishing, I never use a float. I would not be able to see the target to pick apart the structure. Night fishing for me consists of a couple green lights, and bucket of minnows.

I don't night fish but have a buddy who does casting jigs under a cork. Might pm the man that sells those green lights. Bob#1 should be able to help more with night fishing.

I night fish and use both jigs and minnows. I tie a Gamakatsu Drop shot hook on with palomar knot and long tag line and after it's tied I run the tag ling back through the hook eye so when tight the hook stands out right. Then I tie on a jig, usually 1/8 or 1/4 oz and that is my weight and bait. The bigger fish will come on the jig probably 75 to 80 % of the time. I like several colors including a Black/Blue/Black & Chart tail. I also like black and Chart along with others.

Just keep trying colors until you find the color they want. Just because it's dark don't mean you have to fish dark colors. I fished the other night and tried every color in the rainbow and all they wanted was a BG Monkey Milk.

I don't use a jig at night for crappie but, I do use lighted floats with a minnow rig. My floats are the cheap "stick floats" from walmart that have the foam on them. I cut the top stick down to about 1/4 inch above the foam and push a piece of 3/16 clear tubin down over it. I cut the tubing down so that it will hold one of the tiny glow sticks that they sell at walmart and push the glow stick down in the tubing. The glow sticks work great... if you get a good batch of them but, I usually end up with about 1 that doesn't work good out of a pack.
