    Default Sauger

Crappie fishing with my Son and though we caught several crappie along with a few bass, cats and white bass, he pulled it up and had his first ever sauger, only one we caught but gives me hope for this winter

They are 1st cousin to Walleye. I would not have thought they would thrive in warmer waters???

I will try and find out specifics. Friend I hunt with said his son was catching them down there somewhere because he was trying to decide whether to hunt or go catch some.

Nice. Haven't caught one in awhile. You get to lipping them if you bass fish and forget there's teeth in that there lake, lol. Like your engine. Got one of those. We laugh all the way to the gas pumps.

That is a rare fish you hold.according to the survery done last feb and march by the fish and game dept they only were able to catch 46 fish in 3 days of netting with only 3 of them over 4 years old. The fishery has collapsed and the state has no clue why.The lack of fish in the survery made them raise the size limit to where ALL Sauger must be over 14 inches before you can keep it.Seems like a silly change since there has to be fish before a size limit matters. Before it was changed you could keep 3 under 14 and then the next 7 must be over 14.

We used to catch them good 6-7 yrs ago, then they were gone. Haven't caught a single limit over the last 4 yrs.
