Angry I think a local boat shop scewed us over. Need your opinions.

Here's the short version. I might post the whole saga later.

We needed the carbs on our Evinrude 60 rebuilt.
    Local boat shop did it.
Boat sat for 12 weeks because I was busy and couldn't take it out.
Take it out last weekend and engine is sluggish and leaking fuel.
Dad takes it back to the boat shop.
Mechanics are astounded that we didn't immediately, within days of picking the boat up, take it out and run two full tanks of gas through it.
No one mentioned anything even close to that when he picked it up.
They say the carbs are all gummed up. They say this is because they use a bunch of special chemicals when rebuilding the carbs and the boat must be run right away after a carb rebuild.
They say it's our fault, fix the carbs again, and charge us for it, again.
My Dad picked the boat up and paid for it GRRR, with a check GRRRR.

I think the whole running two tanks of gas after a carb rebuild is bulls***. I've never heard of such a thing. Doesn't mean it's not true, but it's the first I've heard of it.

If that is true, wouldn't you think they would have made it VERY clear to my Dad when he picked it up? "Oh by the way, if you don't go out today and run two tanks of gas through this thing, the carbs will gum up and you'll have to pay for another rebuild".

Also, the new fuel lines and bulb and all leaked too, they blamed this on 'defective parts from the manufacturer'.

    So, what is your opinion?
Is this really our fault, or is the boat shop running us a line of crap?

never heard of having to run two tanks of gas through after a carb rebuild, when i do a rebuild i start it and run it before i call the job done to make sure everything is working right. Even if it is true i would find a new mechanic. my .02

Two tanks with some sea foam would have solved the problem in the first place. Question...: Did ya get a kiss?

Well, did you run two tanks of gas through it when you got it back and if so did that take care of the problem?

    If that were true

Why cound't they just drop the motor in a barrel and let it run for awhile after the rebuild ?

If I were you i'd be looking for a new mechanic.
