    Default Jig Knocker?

Getting ready to purchase some hand tied crappie jigs and as everyone knows...they cost a little more. Got my eyes on some of Crappie Logic's jigs... I have bass fished for many years and have always used what we called "plug knockers" (link to photo below)...

With the price of crankbaits, these really paid off. We just clipped them on our line and sent them down. When they got to the crankbait, we just pumped the rod a few times, the weight slapped the crankbait, and bingo...the crankbait came loose most of the time. At $5 to $15 bucks a pop for crankbaits, these cheaply made rigs saved us alot of money.

Anyway, hand tied crappie jigs are not that expensive, but more than your average jig head & body combination. It is raining this evening and I am stuck inside and got to doing a little brainstorming. Do you think a form of this may work for crappie jigs? I'm going to Bass Pro Shops this weekend and look around to see what I can come up with...any ideas?

There's quite a few options for jigs, 1) used spark plugs 2)3/4 or 1oz egg sinkers/bobbee pin 3)pinch on weights, they're long, slotted and have bendable ear tabs. I've tried all 3 and each one does work, but I really like them in reverse order numerically. Plus, I've made enough of both weights to last a lifetime.

Now the 3/4 or 1oz egg sinker & bobbee pin sounds good. I've got both of them here at the house. Thanks crappiedoc!

IMO, it's not worth it for jigs. Your mileage may vary.

    Hey Jiggn,
Here is an alternative to having to use a knocker.
I found out from one of our fellow members about some lightwire hook jigs made by a fellow member. The hooks will almost always straighten out enough to pull free of a hangup, but they will hold any crappie and most green carp without straightening.
I ordered some and they are top quality. He pours, colors and paints them by hand and punches out he hookeye so you can get the line through (pet peeve of mine with jigs).
He is in Ga. Here is a link to his site.

No, I don't have any personal involvement in this, just like to put in a plug for a fellow member and supporter who seems like a nice guy.
