Default A Few River Crappies from the Canandaigua Outlet

I had the day off, so I went for a float on the Canandaigua Outlet. Caught a bunch of Crappie and Bluegills.

Most of the Crappie were catch and release, I kept a few of the larger ones. I caught a ton a nice Bluegill, and I ended up with 5lbs. of filets.

I know the area well; born and raised in Rochester.

That is a very respectable catch. Nice color too.

The crappie pictured is just a dink, but the bluegill is about 8 inches.

Our crappie don't get huge up here. There are a few places you can catch 10-12 inch crappie.

You just have to know where to go.

Those photo's bring back memories, Frank. A L O N G time ago, I fed myself pretty regularly from that outlet while working my way through college there - that was before the college even had a campus. Do the pickerel still ambush you from the weedbeds on that little creek? It sure was a life saver during the thin weeks!

I've never caught a pickerel in the outlet. I have caught some realy nice norther pike on light line. Sure teaches you to be quick on the drag, that's for sure.
The pool I fish, (with my kayak) I get some realy nice bluegills and a fair amount of crappies. Alot of people overlook the outlet for good fishing, just because it's not a huge lake does not meen there arn't some good eaters swimmin in there.
Wishing you Blue Skies and Tight Lines
