Default On Board Battery Charger Recommendations

Well it seems as my old on board battery charger has died, so I am now looking to replace it. What do you all recommend? My old one was 2 bank and is on my 01Tracker. Thanks for the help !

Search the electronics forum Fishing electronics and trolling motors for "charger". You will get lots of good info.

Since "on board" chargers are relatively new to me, as I've only had one for a little over a year ... I can't rightly "recommend" any particular brand. But, the Minn-Kota MK220 that I do have ... seems to be doing the job it was intended to do.

What you are most likely to get, in the way of replies, is opinions about what on board charger the member HAS ... and how it's worked out (or not) for them. Considering that .... I would ask you what was the brand/model of your charger, and how long did it serve you well ?? If it was a good one, and lasted many years, consider replacing it with the same or similar one. If not, consider another brand ... or a upgrade model of the same brand you had.

For true "set it & forget it" charging, you will want a "smart charger" that charges your batteries in phases. Also known as "maintenance" or "multi-stage" chargers.

A lot of folks are having good luck with NOCO Genius chargers bought on Amazon. Prices are very good compared to others.

I've had a Guest 2 bank 5amp onboard charger (model 2611) last 6 years and just ordered another one yesterday from Cabelas for my second boat, they are on sale now... was $139 now $89. no problems with it yet. I use PVC pipe as shims to keep charger 3/4" away from mounting surface so air will circulate around, they do get warm.

My XPS from Bass Pro has served me well, it's probably 12-15 years old.
