With a 1/16 ounce head, you can get them to go down 4'-5' with 50'-75' of line out.

Take a look at these very informative posts made by a member on the Louisiana board. He had good success with long line trolling safety pin spinners.

This is my favorite way of fishing. Experiment on adding weights either three way swivels or bullet weights. You also have to experiment with your speed. I gradually switch to small stickbaits and crankbaits. You will catch all kinds of species of fish. You just have to accept that you will lose some of your lure once in a while.Originally Posted by Big George
I have used 1/32 oz. little spinner baits to catch crappie. I troll with the trolling motor (variable speed 1-10) set on about 3 depending on the wind. I did this in the Spring so the water depth was only about 6' and around grass.
We did well catching some over 1 1/2 pounds, the wife caught one 2.9 pounds.
We have successfully trolled in-line Mepps spinners and beetle spins using our MinnKota set on 2 or 3 depending on wind. We've picked up lots of crappie, and other assorted species.
It's not my idea of fun, but if nothing else works, we'll give it a try and usually pick up fish. - Roberta
