Hey folks,
Yes -- it's true. Crappies are still spawning in a number of locales,
but they should have eggs completely dropped within a week or so.
For some reason, the spawning activities were later than usual this year.
Did anyone else notice this phenomenom ?
At last outing, about 12 days ago, we went out on a nightstalking excursion, and took around 30 crappie, along with a mixed bag of jumbo perch (to 13 inches), a few "bull gills", and a very hefty largemouth bass, a six pounder !
Smallest crappie of the night was 10 inches --- most were in the 11 to 12 inch range. We managed three large crappies, with two going about 12 &1/2 inches, and the biggest slab was 14 & 1/2 inches -- that slab was the size of a hubcap, and was fooled by a live, 3 inch shiner.
Hey ! Let's hear some reports ! Has anyone been out fishing ?
Let's hear some good news -- some reports, of any kind ..... don't be shy !
We will be going out on two or three more nightstalking trips during the last week of June and the first week of July ..... will be launching at 8:00pm and will be fishing 'till around 3:00 or 4:00am ..... should be hot !
(Southern Tier Lakes are hoppin' with crappie action at night !)
If any of you fellow slab-seekers would like some nightstalking tips, please post a message here, or P.M. me here,
at the NYS forum.
Until next report -- Kap'n K ..... over and out (fishin')
