    Default Cheap DIY Minnow Trap

OK, I didn't do a search to see if this has been posted before, so my apologies if it's a dupe.

Happen to run across a pic of one of these and thought it was a pretty neat project, especially if you have kids.

I haven't built one (don't drink soda, so will have to find a bottle or two), but might....just for the heck of it. Might be a handy item to have around?

Also saw a "slightly" larger version (on Google Images) made from 2 large water bottles from a water cooler, and the pic came back to here (CDC), but the link to the pics is broken, and no way to add the pic.

Take the same 2-3 liter bottle and cut off the neck, reverse it, and stick it back in the bottle. The friction will hold it in place. Put your bait inside and set it on the bottom of the pond or stream. You can also float it with a little bit of grey pipe foam and a few thumb tacks. I have used this for some time successfully.

Hi George! I'd seen some made like you mentioned, but on the flipside, it'd be nice to have the original lid/end in order to drain the minnows and water out of it without having to disassemble the trap.

I'm still looking for someone who drinks pop out of 2 liter bottles.

Just pull the 2 pieces apart, they are just held by friction

What would you bait it with?

I just made one like George had mentioned, figured it'd take-up less room in my Kayak. Won't take much to bait it and toss it over the side while I'm fishing, and maybe give me a few minnows just in case they prefer them that day. That is if any make their way into the bottle

I just went through the bottom end with a center hole and knotted piece of paracord, then punched a hole in both pieces at the other end and tied them together so I don't have to worry about losing the smaller/funnel piece, then tied an additional 3' piece to it to tie-off to the kayak.

Had to buy this one at the grocery store since I couldn't find any empty bottles anywhere, but when I do, I'd like to make one like shown in the 1st pic.

you need small holes in the bottom end so water will flow through it. and crumbled up crackers make good bait.
