    Default Christmas Jig strikes again

Wife and I went out this AM for a couple hours and got 8 nice keepers. Tried several good colors, but nothing until I went back to my favorite Christmas jig.

That is a old 2"X12" they are laying on and the biggest was 16" and 1#12oz. Should have had 4 or 5 more, but my reel was giving me fits and let line out when I set the hook a few times.

Nice catch there don't you hate it when you let a few get away like that.
I misedabout 10 - 12 keppers one day this spring. Because I did not give them enought line.

The thing that really make me mad is this spinning reel is over $200, but when using Power Pro or any Braid if the line is over the bail and not in the roller as it should be it will life the bail and let line off. Sheesh!

Thought I posted a pic of it, but here it is and it's the one on the top. It's a color combo I have been using a really long time.

Dumb question I know but I'm still trying to figure out this jigging thing. I seem to have no luck at it all.

Are you swimming/retrieving the jig, or bobbing it vertically next to stumps/cover when you catch your fish?

I do like that color combo though, where did you buy them at?

Other than minnows, I can only seem to catch crappie on the little crankbaits, such as the Mini dig-its I get at Cabelas, and I've only caught a couple on Roadrunners. Get a few hits on the Roadrunners, but they don't seem to hook up for me. Nothing on jigs, and I've tried about every color I can think of.

    Thanks! Joe

I just lower my jig down 12'-14' and really don't move it much at all (that is my starting depth). If I don't get a hit I change depth until I do or move to another spot. Lately I have been jigging over brush piles, but in the spring I troll with my troll motor and that bite stopped on me about 2 weeks ago. Brush piles I have been using 1/8 Oz. and when trolling I use either 1/32 Oz. or 1/16 Oz. If they are there you should get bit pretty fast or pick up and move.

As for my jigs I hand tie them and if you are interested PM me because I do sell them custom as to what ever color combo's you want. I have been using that Christmas color since the late 70's and is still my favorite. I do use quite a few other colors also though that one is my go to bait in jigs.

    Thanks,
