    Question Handicapped boating aids?

Does anybody make a step or ladder that would allow a old or partially disabled person to dismount from a boat that is on the trailer on the ramp? Launching the boat is easy by myself but when I load the boat onto the trailer, there is no way I can get out of the boat and secure it to the trailer's winch without getting my feet wet. Not much of a problem in the summer but when winter gets here wet jeans and shoes can be a real pain in the rear.

I'm considering having some sort of steps or walk way welded to the trailer. By the way my boat is a 17.5' deep v-bow which makes the front gunwales nearly 6' off the ground when loaded on the trailer.

    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    Cabela's: Cabela's Trailer Step

They different kinds of boat trailer steps.

Have a step similar to the Cabelas one I made for myself since I wear a brace on right leg. You might need a double step. And you could probably find a fab shop somewhere around you to make one for you. I would look at having a frame made to fit trailer tounge and cover with expanded metal. Everything you do though you will need to make sure you have swing clearance when you turn. You might even be able to fab up something with a grab handle that could be mounted to winch stand that you could install and remove just for when you are loading boat. I can tell you from experience it ain't no fun to fall off front of boat into that cold water when trying to climb out onto tongue of trailer plus dangerous.

get on the arkansas board and post this for, i think, rtark to post pictures of what he built. he has built the neatest thing to help get out of a boat after putting it on the trailer. it has hand holds for more safety. his is much better than the ones pictured here or should i say safer.

I have used this product on two different boats and it works great.

Mine was built to make it easy, but I'm still fairly spry. I'm sure EZ could add in a hand hold if need be.

Since there is nothing being sold here I am moving this thread to the main board. Might get more responses there too.
