Very cool. How long to you leave something like this out? Are there state regulations about leaving these traps out?

I guess over night or a couple of hours depends how desperate you are for minnows. I think I will buy a dozen and set the trap when I get the water. When I run out i'll check it.

When I was a kid I was a boy scout and took the boys life magazine. I remember making those things by the dozens (we drank a lot of pop). They work OK, I always had to put small rocks inside of it to keep it in place. Also a hole punch works better and is safer than a hot nail.

Pretty neat, and the best part is that its free!
You can do the same thing with those large pretzel cans you get from the discount clubs. Just use a 3 ltr bottle top for the funnel part.
It does like to float so it needs weights in the bottom.
Currently a non-fishing slacker! (not for too much longer)
I like that idea we eat alot of those pretzels!Originally Posted by freeflow_23
I used to make those all the time when I was a kid. Just caught them for fun though. Those bige gatorade bottles work the best. I'm not talking about the one's you buy at a convinienve store, but the ones from Walmart or the grocery store.
You have to put a LOT of holes in it if you don't use any kind of wieght.
If you use weight, make sure it lays on its side when it sinks, sometimes they like to stand up.
Maybe pour a little concrete in the side.
That's cool. When I was a boy scout, I used to get Boy's Life magazine. Great magazine always full of neat, good stuff . I will definately use a couple of those minnow traps. Thanks.
