Went crappie fishing this morning, got on the water at 5:30am and water temps were 89.5. I went to
one of my favorite spots and they were biting. I fished any where from 5' to 10' deep and in between.
By 8:30am I had ran out of minnows and had 43 Crappie.

Stacked a bunch on my cleaning board.

And still couldn't see the bottom of the cooler.

Here's the end result, 66 filets and 10 fish were to small to filet but the rules in the private lakes I fish
are that you keep every crappie. I had a great day!

Some of us has to work" Thanks for the pic's great mess of crappie!!!! I like your rules. We had a great crappie lake in our area put a 10" limit on it.You can catch a hundred crappie 8-10" hard to catch big ones even in the spring.(Lake Charles)

I likes this a lot! Good day indeed! Sounds like the bite in your part of the woods is very similar to what it is here.

Question, does the creel limits on a private lake superceed the State regulations, or do they even apply to private lakes? Just curious...

Great photos, and have wondered the same thing about fishing in private ponds.......do limits apply?
Probably not, or.......at least I wouldn't stop anyone and ask on the way back to the house. Guess
I'm gonna have to kick myself out into this heat so I can catch something to eat. Congrats and stay
hydrated in this heat.

The owners set the rules on their lakes around here but I never checked the laws on it, he has size limits on his bass and controls the bream fishing. His lakes are trophy bass and bream lakes and he doesn't want the crappie in there, they eat up a lot of the threadfin shad he puts in for the bass.

I hope they do, you see I eat very few of the Crappie I catch. I filet them and scale and gut the smaller ones and I feed a lot of older people that are unable to fish and have very limited income ( no welfare and handout people) and are really having a hard time in this economy. I have a list of people and I know how many filets make them a mess, I work down the list, deliver them and then start over. I keep my catches wrote down and since last Sept I've caught 1178 Crappie and not one has been wasted.

NIMROD
08-05-2012, 07:09 PM
I'd like to see one season of that here , keep everything you catch. Lake Nimrod in Arkansas has a problem with over population. We see high water most springs as it's flood control and our spawns are huge.

Sounds like it would do that lake some good.
